The Kee Resort and Spa @ Patong Beach
Patong Beach is of course Phuket's busiest tourist beach, and right at the center of everything is Soi Bangla, which has always been full of bars, girls, boys pretending to be girls ... and restaurants, shops and hotels. Patong is a bit too much for my taste, but a lot of people like it! If you go back 12 years, when I first came here, Soi Bangla was a little different, indeed the whole of Patong was different. There is now the Jungceylon shopping mall where once used to be a dirty market, and although Soi Bangla is still the nightlife center, things are changing. Many people would like to see a more family oriented Patong, less bars, less bar girls, and I guess more shops and cafes. It's a personal call whether you think Patong (or parts o...

Phuket Webcam at Patong Beach
This Phuket Blog has been online now for 6 years. At about the same time I started the Phuket Weather Blog, which was born when I realised that a lot of people search online for weather information. People are obsessed by the weather. Is it raining? What will the weather be like in mid-July? If it rains, does it rain all day or just showers? When is the best weather in Phuket? Well, the weather blog aimed to show what the weather was really doing rather than relying on averages and seasonal generalisms. It gets updated about once a week with weather news, photos and often some Phuket gossip. Best way to check what the weather is really doing right now? A webcam. A live webcam. Now, the

The Big Buddhas of Phuket
Buddhas? Surely there's only one "Big Buddha" in Phuket? The big white one on the hill? Yes, that's the one known as THE Big Buddha, and it certainly is impressive. We've been driving up that hill for 10 years since before construction began. It's not just the 45m high statue, but we love the great views over much of southern Phuket. Thailand is of course mostly Buddhist, so there are lots of Buddhist temples here, though Phuket also has large a Muslim minority and many Thai-Chinese families. You'll find mosques and Chinese shrines all over the island too, and even a Catholic church, a Hindu temple and Sikh temple! The Big Buddha of Phuket The biggest Buddha in Phuket is the big white marble covered statue o...

Best Hotels in Phuket 2012
Last year I blogged the Top 10 Hotels in Phuket, the list being based on TripAdvisor ratings, which can give you (if there are plenty of ratings) a decent idea of quality. Sure there may be occasional odd reviews - some sound like advertising and you hear rumours that some reviews may be written by people connected with a hotel, or by competitors, but if there are enough reviews I think you can see through the fog and figure out what are the best hotels in Phuket. There is some controversy about TripAdvisor now and then. Anyone can log in and leave a review even if they never sta...

Nguan Choon Tong Herb Shop in Phuket Town
There's a place on Thalang Road in the heart of Old Phuket Town that always turns heads. If you walk past this place, you are bound to notice the smell. And certainly not a bad smell. Something kind of ancient and magical. I can't help but walk in. Outside is a sign that says "Oldest Herbs Shop". The name of the shop is Nguan Choon Tong. Stop outside. Inhale deeply.Thalang Road is my favourite street in Phuket, I like the old town, there's history ...
